Opportunity to Train with the Wisconsin Prison Mindfulness Initiative

  • Tai Chi Center of Madison 1304 South Midvale Boulevard Madison, WI, 53711 United States (map)

The Wisconsin Prison Mindfulness Initiative (WPMI) started offering mindfulness training to incarcerated individuals 14 years ago. Currently, WPMI includes more than 40 volunteers who facilitate Mindfulness circles in 14 prisons. Practicing Mindfulness in prison is a life-changing experience for both incarcerated individuals and the volunteers who walk through prison gates to offer this practice.

WPMI warmly Invites you to a training and informational meeting about our in-prison Mindfulness program on Saturday, March 1, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. It will be held at the Tai Chi Center of Madison, located at 1304 S. Midvale Blvd. To qualify as a volunteer, we ask that you have practiced Mindfulness meditation regularly for at least two years and can volunteer twice a month on weekdays. The training will provide specifics about what we do in prison and why we do it. After completing the training, those who want to volunteer can sign up to be assigned as openings become available. Please note that our Mindfulness circles are secular, as it is considered an education program.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to David Haskin at dhaskin@gmail.com. If you have any questions about the program or the training, please get in touch with Janice Cittasubha Sheppard at cittasubha@gmail.com.
