Kalyana Mitta (spiritual friend in Pali) is a small group of 6–12 people who meet periodically — usually once a month — to study and discuss the teachings of the Buddha and support one another on the path. These groups typically meet in person in Madison. We are also currently gathering names from anyone interested in joining a virtual group.

Meetings generally begin with a half-hour sit, followed by a personal check-in related to practice. Groups may also select readings to discuss, often using a check-in format, with time afterward for more open conversation. Each group develops its own rhythm and flavor over time.

Members are asked to make a good-faith commitment to attend monthly when possible, though a long-term commitment is not expected at the outset. For practitioners at any level, a Kalyana Mitta group can be a valuable complement to individual practice and participation in the sangha.

If you're interested in joining a Kalyana Mitta group, contact Dave Creswell at davecres1949@gmail.com or 608-238-1234. Please indicate if you are interested in an in-person or virtual group, and your general availability as to dates and times (i.e., first and third Mondays evening only, or daytime only, etc.)
