Weekly Meditation During the Pandemic and Beyond
Join Us for Meditation. Developing a meditation practice is easier in the company of others. We offer three meditations each week. All are open to everyone and are ‘drop-in’.
Below are opportunities to practice together in-person or online via Zoom. Sunday and Tuesday evenings are in-person, for those fully vaccinated, as well as via Zoom. Friday evenings are online only at this time.
A note for Zoom newcomers: Zoom is easy to use. If you’ve never used Zoom, when you click on the hyperlink to join the videoconference, you will be led through a very quick process of downloading a small app or plug-in on your device. Zoom works on a wide variety of desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, even older models. Once you’ve added the program to your device, then all you’ll need to do each time is click on the link and the Zoom window will appear with a button to join by video. Select the video icon at the bottom of the screen to join the meeting. You’ll notice a microphone icon with which you can mute yourself- so we don’t get distracted by everyone’s background noise. Please keep your Zoom updated to the most current version in order to have the best online experience.
Every Sunday night, in-person and online, 6 PM to 8 PM
The Sunday night sitting group is both in person and online. In-person meets at First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison in the Landmark Auditorium.
On the first and third Sundays, there will be a 45-minute sitting followed by a talk and discussion. On the second, fourth, and fifth Sundays we will have a practice night consisting of two 45-minute sittings with a 20- minute walking period in between.
In order to accommodate those who are not able to attend in person, we also broadcast the Sunday night gathering via zoom using the same link as usual (see below). Check this page for updates and changes, or sign up to be part of the MailChimp list (indicate your preference for notices about Sunday night).
Monthly introduction to meditation
Beginning in June 12, 2022 we will return to offering an introductory session on the second Sunday of each month. An experienced practitioner will offer an introduction to our group and to meditation and will lead a guided meditation and answer questions. Join us from 6 to 8 pm. This opportunity is available in-person only.
The introduction is a two hour in-person session that meets at the same time as the regular Sunday night group. The regular group will be on Zoom as well as in-person. The intro group will go in another room and not be on Zoom.
